The Warsaw Rising Museum - the best renovated building

| |
The Warsaw Rising Museum has been awarded the prize for the best renovated building in East-Central Europe in the prestigious CEPIF & International Herald Tribune competition.

This is the second time that the CEPIF prize has been awarded to the Warsaw Rising Museum. It was declared the Best Public Site built between 1989-2006.

In the last four years the Warsaw Rising Museum received almost 20 awards and recognitions, making it the most acclaimed museum in Poland.

The Warsaw Rising Museum is seated in buildings of a former tram power plant at Przyokopowa Street 28. The power plant was built in the years 1904 - 1908 within a land plot at the corner of Grzybowska and Przyokopowa streets, facing Przyokopowa street, in the immediate vicinity of Towarowa Street , one of the main roads of Warsaw.

In October of 2003 a contest for the power plant conversion design was decided by selecting a project submitted by Wojciech Obtułowicz, a well known architect from Krakow. In January of 2004 an exhibition design prepared by Mirosław Nizio, Jarosław Kłaput and Dariusz Kunowski has been accepted.
Difficult construction works commenced in mid April after disassembling boilers and other heavy elements. Works were conducted 24 hours a day in three shifts.Simultaneously, restorers of Warsaw historical monuments uncovered from underneath the brownish grey plaster an impressive, hundred year old edifice of the power plant. It is built with red clinker brick and constitutes an interesting example of industrial architecture of the turn of XIX and XX centuries.
