Museum of Communism

| |
The Warsw city officials announced plans to open a Museum of Communism, which would present the Polish struggle against Soviet oppression. Former president and the legendary Solidarity movement leader – Lech Walesa took part in talks on the museum. The fall of the Communism in Europe began in Poland and that is why Polish capital is a right place for such a museum.

The museum is planned to be officially opened in 2010 to mark the 20th anniversary of the collapse of Communism in Poland. It will be housed in the Palace of Culture and Science, which itself reminds of the Communist era, being a “gift” to the Polish nation from Joseph Stalin.

The project will be carried out by Socland, which has been collecting photographs, recordings, documents, films, posters and objects connected with Communism. So far the foundation has managed to gather thousands of exhibits, most of them from Poland.

The aim of the museum is to show the overwhelming power of the Communist system and its influence on the society. It will also reconstruct typical flat, office or working place from 1945-89. The museum still needs more exhibits and everybody is welcome to bring objects typical for the bygone era.
